The Flu season is in full swing. Strange as it may sound, the Flu shots make you sick now so you don’t get sick later.  Hmmmmm!!! some strategy.  Today I am going to share a recipe with you which will help kill the cough and fight the flu without making you sick now.

I grew up in a household where my grandfather (Dada) was a homeopathic doctor and my grandmother (Dadi) was an Herbal medicine expert.  As in most joint family households in Pakistan and India, the words of dada dadi (or for that matter any elder, “buzurg”of the house) was the last whether it is regarding the menu to be decided or medicine to be administered.

Having said that this “phakki” which used to taste worse than “zahar” (poison) at that time (in my childhood), became my “go-to med” for any cough and congestion related issues for me and mine as I started proper adulting.

Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoon Ajwain Whole Clean and Roast first
  • 3 tablespoons Dried Ginger Powder(Sonth)
  • 1-1/2 tablespoons Turmeric (Haldi)
  • 1-1/2 tablespoon Coarse Black Pepper Powder
  • A Jar of Honey
Preparation
  1. Clean and Roast Ajwain or use roasted Ajwain powder
  2. Grind Roasted Ajwain in Pestle and Mortar
  3. Mix Ajwain, Ginger, Turmeric and Black Pepper and store the mixture in a  jar
  4. Take 1 heaped teaspoon of Ajwain mixture and blend well with 2 teaspoons of honey.
  5. It makes about 3 to 4 servings of 1/8 teaspoon of Ajwain Paste, the effective amount to cure the cough. Repeat every hour as needed.
  6. Hopefully you will feel better within 3 days of the treatment.
Tips

For best results, take the Chaati (licking spoon) in a small container and lick it clean slowly,  in about half an hour.  Twice a day is best in case of severe symptoms.
